Twelve Things About Me
It has been a real joy to be with you over the past couple of months as your interim pastor. Someone suggested that it might be a good thing to write an article and share a few things about myself so that you could know me a little better. That sounded like a good idea. To me, the best way to get to know someone is to ask him or her some questions. Of course, I don’t know exactly what questions you might want to ask so I’ll have to make some up. If I miss any that you think are really important, you can ask me personally. So here goes:
1. Were you named after anyone? Yes, after Bret Maverick of the old Maverick Brothers TV series. My brother is named Bart and so, by the time I came along, that series was popular. I guess I am a product of pop culture. 2. When was the last time you cried? Looking at old pictures of my Father who is deceased. 3. Do you like your handwriting? I used to but because of the emergence of computers, it is not as legible as it once was. 4. Do you have family? Absolutely. I met my wife Brenda when we were at OBU. We were married in 1982 and we will celebrate an anniversary in August. The Lord has blessed us with two boys, Riley (23) who lives at home and is working on an information technology degree at ITT, and Parker (21) who is a student at OU and currently on a six-week mission trip/archeological dig in Amman, Jordan. 5. Do you still have your tonsils? No, they were taken out when I was 22 months old. I don’t remember getting any ice cream out of that deal. 6. Would you bungee jump? Maybe but one of the items on my “bucket list” is to skydive. I think it would be a blast and a chance to learn something about myself. 7. What is the least favorite thing about you? That would have to be my tendency toward over-thinking things and worrying about them. 8. Who do you miss the most? I miss my Dad, my college roommate David Curry, and an old high school friend, Frank Quintero. 9. What is your favorite season of the year? That one is easy. It is autumn without any question. 10. What book are you reading right now? I am always reading several at a time but the one that has the most interest at the moment is Transformational Church. 11. What is the farthest you have been away from home? I have been to Israel twice and, God willing, will go to East Asia this fall. 12. What is the most important thing that has ever happened to you? Without a doubt, it was committing my life to Christ and becoming His follower. It was August 4, 1977, at Falls Creek. The message was on Mark 1:17 and that verse has guided my entire life.

Dear FB Chickasha, Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chad Hensley. I was raised in Cheyenne, Oklahoma and my wife is from Norman. We met at the University of Oklahoma and have been serving overseas with the IMB in Istanbul, Turkey with our 3 children for the last 10 years. We are currently on our stateside assignment time based in Norman until January. While reading the Baptist Messenger, I saw the insert on Pacesetting Churches in Cooperative Program Giving. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your church’s commitment to Cooperative Program Giving. It is your gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and CP that have allowed me to serve for the last 10 years and which will allow us to continue to serve in the future. If there is anything we can do for you in the next 6 months, while we are here in Oklahoma, please don’t hesitate to respond to this message. Also, if your church or you personally would be willing to support the work in Turkey via prayer, please let me know. We know this is foundational for all that we do.
Thanks again, Chad Hensley
