MY STORY

The Apostle Paul, once stated in the New Testament, “I am the chief of sinners,” and many Christians would gasp at this self-evaluation, stating that he was a man to be highly regarded and even revered for his key role in the New Testament Church.  My name is Beau Brewer I have been happily married for a little over a year now to the very first girl that I have ever dated, Christa.   I am currently enrolled at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; where I am a student of Theology.  My wife and I live on the seminary campus.

Now, you might be asking yourself “What does he have to do with the Apostle Paul?” I am a changed life through the saving grace of Jesus Christ…just like Paul.   I too, have a thorn in my flesh…just like Paul.  I was fourteen years old when I accepted Jesus as my Savior.  But as you will find out I was quite a bit older before I would know Him as Lord of Lords and King of Kings.  I too, am “the chief of sinners”…just like Paul.

Beginning in the Book of Acts Chapter 9:1-31, you will read about the Conversion of Paul.  Paul, a Jewish/Roman was a guy who viciously sought out Christians of the early Church to destroy them.  But on the road to Damascus, he had a real encounter with Jesus Christ.  He met the Savior of the World and he was changed.  I was a young, raging homosexual with an agenda.  I vehemently ridiculed Christians for their foolishness and intolerance of my lifestyle.  I had been an open homosexual for ten years at the time.  Didn’t these people know that God “made me this way”?  By the way, I was a very liberal Editor in Chief of the local liberal arts university, so I in fact had a podium.  Like Paul, I wanted nothing more than to minimize Christian effectiveness on my university campus.  I led a series of writing campaign attacks against the Christian organizations and ultimately did all that I could to discredit the Christian Community around me.  I saw Faith in Jesus as foolishness.  1 Corinthians 1:18 says, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (NASB)  In reflection, this was me…falling head first into the darkness of sin.  I was so far from God, my soul was empty, and I was alone.  I was on my very own road to Damascus with my own ideas about those foolish “Jesus Freaks.”

Two Christian girls, (one of whom is my wife, Christa) from the university that I was attending went to a weekend Christian conference and came back with “New Hope and a New Prayer” for me.  They gave me a book by Dennis Jernigan called, “This Is My Destiny.”  During the reading of this book, I would say that I had a real encounter with Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of the Living God, who met me on my road to Damascus and through this book, prayer, true love, a fountain of support from Spiritual GIANTS, i.e. Brother Johnny Tims, Jamie Killion, Michael Mills, Jeremy Howe and a Church Family that just never ceased to love me—Jesus guided me home!  I remember the moment that I called the girls up and asked them to meet with me, so that we could talk and pray.  Christ cleansed me of my sinful ways and filled me to overflowing in Jesus’ name, during that prayer that I prayed.  I talked to Jesus for what seemed like forever—I just had so much to praise Him for and you know what—I still do!!!  When Satan comes-a-temptin’…I send him-a-limpin’, because I proclaim John 8:36 which says, “if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

It has almost been three years now.  I still remember when Brother Johnny gave me a passage of Scripture to engrave upon my heart...which is 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, ”Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.  Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” (NASB)
