THE BARNABAS FUND

The benevolence ministries of First Baptist Church are not funded by our budget giving.  For some time we have depended upon free-will offerings to the BARNABAS FUND to help meet the needs of those in financial distress.  God is moving each week in the area of benevolence. As people come to our church office for assistance we listen to them, share with them encouraging words, pray for them asking God to move mightily in their situation, and we share with them the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ as God opens that door.  Will you pray for us in this ministry?  Pray also that God may continue to give us resources so that  we might be a help to people who are in a crisis.  If God stirs your heart, please join us in this ministry by contributing to this fund.

The following is our policy for contributing to the needs through the Barnabas fund:

  • The limit is $30 to $60 depending on the number of small children and the availability of funds.  The most any family can receive is $60.

  • Money is never given.  Purchase orders or checks are made out to the stores, companies, or landlords that are receiving payment.  We always help with the last $30 to $60.

  • Our policy requires individuals to pay back 50% of the amount received within 90 days. If they make the payback, they will remain eligible for future help.  If not, they will not be eligible for any additional help.

  • Eligible individuals can receive funds only once in any 90-day period.

(5)    Everyone, without exception, that receives any kind of help has to counsel with one of the staff. This counseling ranges all the way from sharing Christ, to praying with them about the problems.
